Better Living through Nutrition 2.0 - Apple Cider Vinegar Update & other Healthy Tips
The Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV) is working...it really is! It is a steady pace of fat reduction, that is obvious when you put on pants that you haven't worn in a while and realize they are a little looser than they were the last time you wore them.
If you missed my first blog on the subject...HERE it is!
I wanted to let you know that my husband, Jeff, is now taking ACV daily between meals. He started two weeks after I did, however, the difference on him is even more obvious.
He also told me he likes the taste of the Bragg's brand better than the GNC brand...and wanted you to know that we have found each bottle to taste slightly different. (Like the variations you experience with wine). He has been suffering from a minor issue with acid reflux with runs in his family. We've read several articles on how Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV) can help with this as well. As I understand it, this can help to balance your stomach pH by neutralizing stomach acid...and it seems to be working for him.
I also wanted to follow up with you to let you know that my amazing husband did some additional research for me which actually supports my theory about any vinegar aiding in weight-loss. According to VEGKITCHEN.com article, acid aids in the digestion of protein. By increasing the acid present in your stomach before a meal, you’ll ensure the chances for thorough digestion and you increase the availability of protein for hormone synthesis. Whatever the mechanics...it sure seems to work!
We also have a few other health tricks up our sleeve to keep the pounds off as we age, and want to share them with you but dedicate them to our friends across the pond!
Cinnamon - We add this to our cereal and yogurt regularly. According to this article by FitDay, cinnamon helps prevent the increased storage of fat.
Coffee - We have coffee every morning. According to this article in Shape magazine, drinking coffee before physical activity can also jumpstart your body's fat burning ability. This article also suggests that drinking Red Wine can dramatically slowed the growth of existing fat cells. We drink a lot of red wine...and knew it was heart-healthy, but didn't know it decreased fat cell growth. I think we will have to be adding more Caymus to our diet! :)
Flaxseed - We regularly add flax to our yogurt (along with Cinnamon) for a cherry pie tasting light breakfast that we both really enjoy. Benefit of Flaxseed is that it is a source of fiber which helps you to feel full. But it also slows digestion helps you lose weight because it prevents glucose from spiking blood sugar thereby preventing excess sugar to be stored as fat. Here is an article from Livestrong.com that goes into more details.
Eliminate High Fructose Corn Syrup because this is just overall bad for you!
At the end of the day, we try to eat healthy, but not too healthy. Find a way to balance and enjoy life without overeating...and get lots of exercise, which I'll touch on that in my next blog.
